THE LIVING RIG VEDIC SYMBOLISM IN HIMALAYAN NEPAL
Rig Vedic Nature Symbols in the Modern Traditions of Himalayan Nepal:
These books document various living traditions in modern Himalayan Nepal that are associated to the Rig Veda. The associations are based in nature symbolism found in the hymns themselves. This presentation is through visual anthropology.
The experience of Himalayan nature is enlightening, particularly with the ancient knowledge of Rishis still alive in simple shrines everywhere. Whether on a trek or pilgrimage, holy nature symbols abound with traditions that are still alive, though these are most obvious in village culture.
Current Puranic names and associations have replaced the original ancient Rig Vedic ones, but one constant that has kept the ancient Rig Vedic nature symbols alive for thousands of years is the mystic symbolism of the village kitchen wood fire. This fire symbolism is a doorway to a primal past and the beginnings of the Yoga tradition.

RIG VEDIC ANNAPURNA
The nature view of the southern edge of the Annapurna mountain-massif is described in Mandala 5 Sukta 19 of the Rig Veda. This nature experience of the Annapurna view includes a secret yoga tradition. The Rig Vedic nature symbols of this tradition still live in the annual Panchassee mountain pilgrimage. Set in the Himalayan culture of this region, it is a nature experience that includes self discovery. An inner seeing is described as a “lap of the mother” nature symbol in verse one. Associated Rig Vedic hymns describe a breath (pranayama) and sound (japa) experience of, among other things, a mountain pilgrimage. The final yoga association occurs on the last summit with the complete view of Annapurna. This view is the Rig Vedic Annapurna Yantra.

Research Location
In this Research Annapurna is viewed from Panchassee Bhanjyang meditation hut ruins. This yantra view has a measurable outline and center. This center is a Rig Vedic Mystic Fire symbol and is still the holiest of mountains in Nepal with the outline of a flame. Rig Vedic nature symbols have a universal application. This research shows parallels from other continents and cultures. For example the Rig Vedic nature symbol of fire with its inner and outer parallels is probably applicable to other cultures of prehistory. In the Annapurna region, wood fires are used in village kitchens keeping this Rig Vedic Mystic Fire symbolism alive.
